Chander

Hi I am Chander, and I am 16 years old, well nearly seventeen, actually - my birthday is just two months away and I can’t wait. I will learn to drive and then I can work for my uncle in his factory at the weekends. He needs help, but I need to drive first he says.

I am at college and I am in Year 12. I decided to stay on. My parents want me to go to university to study medicine but I want to run my own business in the future. My subjects are Maths, Physics and Economics. I like Maths best. I am also studying Urdu and Islamic studies – my family want me to do these too. I don’t mind, they are easy for me. In my free time, I watch TV and spend time with my friends and family. I like to play football and watch football on TV – anything football or sport is good! Sometimes, I go out with my brother, Bashir. He is a good brother and he always supports me, like when my mother wanted us to go to visit our family in Pakistan and it was for a long time and I did not want go away from my friends  or my school –Bashir said it would not be good for my studies to be away for so long. Bashir is gay though, and my parents don’t like that. I don’t mind.  It is difficult for my mum, she’s is not well and she has so many things to do.

I live in a house with my mother and father and my two sisters and two brothers, I have to share a room with Bashir and my younger brother Emran. We argue sometimes, especially when I want Emran’s Ipad to do my college work. There’s not much room for all of us and Emran likes to be alone.

I have a two sisters too, my oldest sister is at home at the moment, she finished her degree at Leicester and moved back home after. She has a boyfriend but my parents don’t approve of him either.  He is not from Pakistan and he can’t come here to this house, it causes my Mum so much stress and she is not well.
